Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about CA-assisted ITR filing, pricing, turnaround, and document security. Updated for FY 2025-26.
About the Service
What exactly does FirstReports do?+
FirstReports is a platform where you get your income tax return (ITR) filed by a real ICAI-registered Chartered Accountant. You pay a fixed price, upload your documents securely, and your CA files within 48 hours. You track everything in a live portal — no WhatsApp, no chasing.
Who are the CAs on FirstReports?+
All CAs on FirstReports are licensed Chartered Accountants registered with ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India). They are practising professionals, not algorithms or trainees.
Is FirstReports an ITR filing software or a CA service?+
Both. We are a CA service. The platform handles the workflow (document upload, CA assignment, status tracking, acknowledgement delivery) while a human CA does the actual review and filing.
Pricing & Payment
How much does ITR filing cost on FirstReports?+
ITR filing for income below ₹50 Lakh starts at ₹999 (Silver plan) or ₹1,299 (Platinum with priority processing). For income above ₹50 Lakh, capital gains, or complex returns, plans start at ₹1,999. Advance tax calculation starts at ₹999. TDS on property (Section 194-IA) starts at ₹1,999. All prices are one-time, inclusive of GST, with no hidden add-ons.
Is there a free trial or free consultation?+
Yes — you can speak to a CA for free before committing. Use the 'Talk to a CA' button on any page to book a free 15-minute consultation. No payment needed for the consultation.
Is my payment secure?+
Yes. Payments are processed by Razorpay, which is PCI-DSS compliant. FirstReports never stores your card number, CVV, or net banking credentials.
Can I get a refund?+
If we cannot file your ITR for any reason on our side, you receive a full refund. If your documents are uploaded and the CA has started working, we offer a partial refund proportional to work completed.
Process & Turnaround
How long does filing take?+
Most returns are filed within 48 working hours of receiving complete documents. Platinum plan customers get priority processing. Live Filing is a real-time 45–60 minute session if you want to watch the CA file your return.
What documents do I need to upload?+
For salaried returns: Form 16, PAN card, Aadhaar. For capital gains: broker P&L statement (download guide available for Zerodha, Groww, Angel One, and 10+ other brokers). For advance tax: income estimate for the year. Your CA will ask for anything additional via the portal.
What happens after I pay?+
You are taken to your secure document portal. Upload your files there. A CA is assigned within 1 working hour and begins review. You receive email updates at each milestone: CA assigned, CA query (if any), ITR filed, acknowledgement uploaded.
What if my CA has questions?+
Your CA raises queries in the portal's messages tab. You get an email notification. Reply with the answer or upload an additional document. The CA resumes work immediately after your response.
Security & Privacy
Is my financial data safe?+
Yes. Documents are stored in encrypted cloud storage (AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit). Your data is never shared with other CAs or third parties. Row-Level Security ensures no other CA on the platform can see your documents.
Do you share my data with anyone?+
We share data only with the sub-processors needed to run the service: Supabase (storage), Razorpay (payments), and Vercel (hosting). We never sell your data or use it for advertising. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
Is my PAN number safe?+
Your PAN is stored in our encrypted database and is only accessible to your assigned CA. It is never sent to any AI system. We use AI only for detecting broker file formats from column headers — never for processing PAN or personal identity data.
Brokers & File Formats
Which brokers do you support?+
We support all major Indian brokers: Zerodha, Groww, Angel One, Upstox, ICICI Direct, HDFC Securities, Kotak Securities, 5paisa, Dhan, Motilal Oswal, and more. We also have step-by-step download guides for each broker on our Brokers page.
What file format should I upload?+
Upload the Tax P&L or Capital Gains statement from your broker — usually in Excel (.xlsx) or CSV format. Each broker calls it something slightly different: 'Tax P&L', 'Capital Gains Report', 'Trading Statement'. Our broker guides show exactly where to find it.
What if I trade on multiple brokers?+
That is fine. Upload the P&L statement from each broker separately. Your CA will consolidate all of them into a single correct Schedule CG entry in your ITR.
